The People and Skills Standard provides a framework for creating an individual record of experiences, skills, and relevant training and certificates that makers can use to showcase accomplishments and relevant knowledge to potential employers, peers, and collaborators across global networks. Join us for this month's community call, where Research and Community Engagement Lead Sarah Hutton will discuss the People and Skills Standard. You will hear from Sarah, joined by community experts, how the standard is being tested in the Innovative Manufacturing in Africa program, the mAkE Consortium project, and how community members can get involved in contributing to a community-led initiative to further develop this standard and accompanying outreach.

Open Council and Community Call on the IOPA Governance

Join the Open Council and Community Call on April 20th at 5pm CET to give your feedback and inputs on proposals to redesign the governance of the IOPA. The Governance task force will present their proposals during an interactive call where they will be discussed and adjusted live via a miro board. The call will also outline the process to engage in the review phase beyond the call. If you cannot attend the call, you can still participate asynchronously through the forum. Kicking off the Innovative Manufacturing in Africa (IMA) Project with a bang! Congratulations to the 9 makerspaces selected for the $19,200 Award. We are excited to embark on this one-year project, funded by UKAID through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, to support research and innovation capabilities in the hardware maker innovation ecosystem in Kenya, Ghana, and South Africa.

IoPA April Community Call: A Focus on Open Know Where (OKW):

Join the IoPA April Community Call on April 13th to learn more about Open Know-Where (OKW). The call will showcase the successes and lessons learned by the OKW community, including their experience with the first round of OKW Data Award, efforts to clean up data through heat maps and dataset maps, and the upcoming reboot of the OKW Working Group. Attendees will also meet the OKW Round two Awardees and participate in a collaborative ideation session. The call will also provide updates on the mAkE project, which focuses on African and EU makerspaces. All are welcome to attend and learn more about OKW's mission to improve data quality and accessibility.

IOPA February Community Call: Knowledge Frameworks - Valueflows and OKF Visual Vocabulary

The community call will discuss knowledge frameworks and vocabularies that support the exchange of resources in networks that assist distributed manufacturing. The guest speakers, Lynn Foster and James Butler will share their work on initiatives that promote open supply chain ecosystems. Lynn Foster will discuss Valueflows, a vocabulary that helps coordinate the creation, distribution, and exchange of economic resources in economic networks. James Butler will discuss the Open Knowledge Framework (OKF) Visual Vocabulary and demonstrate how it can help articulate a dynamic supply chain request. The community call is open to everyone interested, but registration is required.

IOPA January Community Call: Maker Community, Connection And The Passport

This community call will focus on the research moving toward the development of a maker passport in support of the pan-African maker innovation system (mAkE). In addition we will also look at "Are People and Skills Standard is necessary for individual makers to participate in and easily navigate a distributed manufacturing ecosystem?" An immediate use case for this work is application to the open system infrastructure developed as part of the pan-African mAKe project.

IoPA at Fab16 - Open Know-How

This workshop was hosted at Fab16 Montreal. It presented the alliance and the data standards it has released so far, then moved to a hands-on workshop digging into one of these initiatives: the Open Know-How (openknowhow.org/) documentation standard. During the workshop, we learnt how to make OKH Manifest files and use them to document and evaluate medical designs for COVID-19 around the web. We used this information to learn how to effectively discover, compare and select the best projects from a list of devices.
